AAPI Guide - Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders: Home

To be filled...

In this guide you will find resources for learning more about Asian American & Pacific Islander history in the United States and abroad, activism, culture, and teaching materials. Resources are available within BCC, CUNY and online. This guide includes cultural organizations whose work focuses on communities in The Bronx, New York City, and across the U.S.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. It honors the achievements, heritage, and histories of AAPI peoples in the United States. Asian, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders span more than sixty countries of origin. We are not a monolith. Asian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Indo Caribbean, Indo African - we are multi-racial, multi-ethinic, span multiple religions, and speak innumerable languages. And like other  communities of color, our lives represent a vast range of traditions, geographies, experiences and histories. As empire and imperialism shattered our motherlands, our histories are fractured, non-linear, and forever in motion in diaspora across the world. AAPI history is not a subsection of U.S. history, but rather central to the history of our city and country. And these histories are interwoven with the struggles, joys, and in solidarity with that of Black and Latinx histories.
