This online guide is developed specifically for those doing research in Modern Languages. It provides a recommended list of resources, which encompasses print materials, electronic databases, and selected Internet resources.

CUNY OneSearch

Use OneSearch, the library's integrated catalog, to find books, articles, streaming videos, DVDs, CDs, and more.

Use the OneSearch box below to search CUNY's digital and physical holdings for works on world languages, literature, Arabic, French, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and more. If you are off-campus, you will need to log in with your BCC credentials to see item locations, read full-text resources, and/or place holds on unavailable items.

OneSearch Guidelines

Use OneSearch if you:

  • are looking for a specific title, whether an article or a book,
  • want a combination of books, articles, ebooks, etc. on a topic, or
  • are just starting your research.

Performing Basic Searches:

  • Just type one or more words you are looking for and click the Search button.
  • To search for a phrase, type quotation marks around the phrase. You can combine both words and phrases in your search.
  • Once you are familiar with the basic search, you might want to try doing more with the Search panel or use the Advanced Search option. Both of these options offer numerous features for making your searches more precise and enable you to get results that are more useful.
  • Use the left-hand side panel to narrow down your search by selecting "Resource Type", "Topic/Subject", "Date", and so on.

Performing More Complex Searches:

  • Select "Advanced Search" from the main OneSearch web site.
  • Choose how you would like to limit your search (by title, author, resource type, age of material, etc).
  • Set your limits and perform your search.
  • As with basic searches, you will have the option to further limit your results using the left-hand side panel.
