Reserve collection is designed to support teaching and learning at Bronx Community college

Course Reserve: Overview

Course reserve collections are items designated at the request of instructors to increase accessibility to assigned course materials, either physical or electronic copies. Physical reserve materials are located at the circulation desk within the library and users will need assistance from a circulation desk staff member to borrow materials.  Electronic reserve, also known as E-Reserve is available within this guide.  For assistance navigating E-Reserve guides, view the "Accessing E-Reserve tutorial" HERE.

NOTE: Only instructors can submit course reserve requests to the library.  Students seeking to place item(s) within course reserve collection are recommend to reach out to their instructors.  

BCC Reserve Collection

Accessing Physical Reserve

Physical reserve materials are located at the BCC library circulation desk and can be borrowed by BCC affiliated members only. Users are required to present either their physical or electronic BRONCO ID card when borrowing materials and the item call number.   To locate item call numbers, use the instructions below

  1. Using oneSearch, users can perform a title search. It is recommended to enclose the book title using quotations marks.
  2. Use the "resource type" filter option to limit result lists to "Books" only
  3. For books with multiple copies, under the book title and author information, click on "see all versions"
  4. The "available at" information section provides the physical location of the material.  
  5. Copy down the call number and provide this information to the circulation staff member.

NOTE: All reserve materials display "BCC Library Reserves" in addition to the book call number within the "available at" information section.  Users with blocks or fines exceeding the $25 threshold must resolve them prior to accessing reserve items.

Loan Periods 

The following loan periods are for physical item placed on Course Reserves

  • Three Hour - Materials are borrowed for three-hour periods and must be used within the library.  
  • Three Day - Materials are borrowed for three-day periods and can be taken outside the library.  

Renewals

To increase accessibility of reserve materials for all users, BCC library do not offer immediate renewals on reserve items.  To renew, users must wait at least one-hour from the return time to checkout the same title.  Circulation desk staff may use their discretion for three-hour reserve items.

Additional Information

Note: Not all faculty members place materials on Course Reserve.  Please reach out to your instructor if your course material is not on reserve.

Accessing E-Reserves

Electronic Reserve materials can be accessed electronically, on or off campus using your Bronco ID login credentials.

  1. From the "QuickSearch" options within the library's homepage, click on "EReserves" and then search. Users can also visit the E-Reserve guide HERE 
  2. From the pull-down menus, select Instructor.  Find instructor’s last name from the list as shown.
  3. Click on instructor's name.
  4. Select your course number.
  5. Users will need use their BRONCO ID login credentials to access secured digital materials of respective courses
  6. Then click Go.
  7. Select appropriate course folder.
  8. Select title of work needed.

What technology is required for access?

  • A connection to the Internet.
  • A current web browser (IE 7.0 or later).
  • A copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your system, with the proper plug-in enabled for your web browser.
  • For remote access, you must have Bronco ID login credentials. If you are unable to access your account, contact IT helpdesk at tsc@bcc.cuny.edu or 718-289-5970
