Physical Reserve Library Policy

Borrowing Reserve Materials

Users will need either their BCC ID or mobile ID from the BCC app to borrow physical reserve material.  

Copying and Printing

Users will need their physical BCC ID card for printing or copying.  Users can also purchase a guest card for $1 and top-up with exact change via the kiosk boxes located just past the lobby-cafe on the first floor and next to the library copier room inside the library in the event their physical BCC ID card is not available.  

Overdue fines
  • Three hour loans: Overdue charge is 10 cents per minute, which is equal to $6.00 per hour up to a maximum of $20.00. Please note: the fine for removing two-hour loan period reserve material from the Library is $40.00.
  • Three day loans: Overdue charge is $10.00 per day per item, up to a maximum of $200.00
Lost or Damaged Items
  • A replacement fee of $85.00 (or another amount that the library deems necessary to replace the book) plus a processing fee of $25.00 and any overdue charges.  Replacement fees and processing fees for reserve materials must be paid at BCC library.
Blocks

Users can have a library block on their record when there is at least one overdue item or overdue charges exceeding the $25 threshold.

Courtesy Holds
  • Can be requested for three day reserve items.
  • No courtesy hold for three hour reserve items

E-Reserve Policy

IMPORTANT: All E-Reserve copyrighted materials must follow "Fair Use" guidelines as set by U.S. copyright law.  See CUNY Fairuse and Copyright Guide.

Existing E-Reserve policy are as follows

  • An entire book under copyright will not be placed on E-Reserve.
  • Materials placed on E-Reserves must be legally obtained via library or instructor purchase.  Materials from other colleges will not be accepted to include Interlibrary loans (ILL) and CUNY Libraries Intra-Campus Services (CLICS).
  • Access to E-Reserve folders is restricted to current BCC affiliates: Students, faculty, and staff via BRONCO ID login credentials
  • E-Reserve materials are removed at the end of each Spring semester.
  • E-Reserve requests for book content cannot exceed 25% of the book, maximum of 100pages or three chapters limit, whichever comes first.
  • All E-Reserve courses have the following copyright statement:  
    The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use that user may be liable for copyright infringement

NOTE: Instructors are required to provide a physical copy of books submitted for E-Reserve processing in cases where BCC library do not own of a copy of the book.  Failure to provide physical copy may result in denial of E-Reserve requests.  When possible, the library may purchase a book pending availability of funds.
